I am currently developing a site for a client that is still using 2.1.   I am developing the site using 4.9.

What I need to know is this.

Is there anyway to do an upgrade from 4.9 production site to 5.6.5,

Install a new instance of 5.6.5 to replace the current 2.1 site.

And transfer the data base from the 5.6.5 production site to the new 5.6.5 live site?

The reason I ask is because of the time that has gone into developing the new site, we are trying to save time and not do everything over from scratch.

Wow dnn 2.1.  That is old.  There is rumor that Snowcovered website is still running on DNN 2.1.

Maybe you can upgrade to 3 then 4 then 5 then 6.  Fix any errors along the way.

We would but the client wants as little down time as possible.

if you are going to replace 2.1 site with a new one, I'd start with 6.1.1 and copy content by copy & paste or SQL I'd transfer users via a text file and import it using a user management module from Codeplex or Snowcovered.
