It is really difficult to make any suggestions unless there is more information regarding the problem. For example we would need to know what package was used - Source, Install, Upgrade, or Starter Kit. We would also need to know if you created your web project using VS2005/VWD or just extracted the files manually. Are you using HTTP (IIS) or the File System web server? Are you using SQL Server 200, 2005, or Express. What installation instructions did you follow? As you can see there are many combinations which can lead to different results. Please provide more information...

This forum is odd, it shows moderated posts in the counts and the names of the poster.  Anyways, I was able to fix it.  I downloaded the install package off the website, rinse, then repeated without modifying the install template.  I did change the debug compilation flag and the connection strings and viola` it worked.

Since i was just trying to get it to work, i didn't test the different senarios to find out what is really going on here.

You may experience this problem if you changed the default password for host/admin account. There are two solutions to solve the problem.

1) In Install/DotNetNuke.install.config (4.3) or Install/DotNetNuke.install.resources (3.3) file, the length of password for host and admin account must be equal or great than 7. (<password>dnnadmin</password>).

2) Change minRequiredPasswordLength="7" to minRequiredPasswordLength="4" or what ever you want in Web.config file.

I got the same error. I used the starterKit 4.3 with VS2005 and SQL 2005 on an win2003 EE. Thereto I used HTTP (IIS 6.0) following the official instruction provided by the starter Kit. Installation went through perfectly besides the problem with the one Forum .aspx. So I deleted the Forum module from the Install dir and got the the mentioned error.
thx
