One of the reasons I talked our company into buying a professional license was to have the Search engine. And then I just realized that DNN themselves aren't even using it on their site?  What's the deal there?  Did we waste our money?

My biggest problem is that it's indexing all the text on the page, including menus and footers and useless stuff like that.  So if I search for Quality (and I happen to have a page called Quality Assurance), then EVERY PAGE in the site comes up because the menu is on every page.  Well this is completely useless, don't you think?  I looked around and there is no config to ignore menus or any other info on how to get menus or other stuff to be left out of the search.  There is some third party DNN search control that supports HTML comment blocks to ignore stuff.

So should I not even bother trying to get the DNN Search thing working, standard or Pro? Maybe I should just use Google Custom Search instead like DotNetNuke.com does?  Advice?

Hello, We built a custom search based off Zoom indexer but we are looking for something else also.  We are using Google Custom Search because we like the results that we are getting back.  Only issue not clear how often it gets updated and so new items could be missing is what we have seen.  We have more generic search with Google and Advance search with Zoom.  Also wondering what others have found useful on their DNN sites.

How do you have your menu set up? I don't seem to have this issue with my install.

I am outputting the menu as a UL-LI, which is fairly traditional HTML, then styling it with a 3rd party MegaMenu. I am using a Razor cshtml to output my menu items because I needed to use a custom profile value to modify the items (replacing a tag like [XYZ] with a token value from the profile to build a query string for external link URL's).

Perhaps the standard DNN menu puts something into the menu that hides it from the indexer? Maybe I need to figure that out and add it to my Razor. It could be something like an HTML comment with certain words in it.
