I am running DNN 5.1.1 and asp.net 4.  I recently updated from a much earlier version to 5.1.1 and a few days ago took the further step of changing to asp.net 4.  Following the latter, the site exhibited some strange behaviour which I have  mostly eliminated by modifying web.config after searching the net, including these forums, for ideas.  The site is running fine except that

(a) the Register link takes you nowhere - although the javascript call shows in the line at the bottom of the browser but when the link is clicked basically nothing happens and

(b) the Login link works as far as taking you to the login form and allowing you to enter user ID and password - it even identifies if an incorrect id and password are entered.  However, when the login button is clicked you end up back on the home page and not logged in.  Understandably this makes it rather hard to administer the site!

Skin is modified Minimal Extropy.  I did not not set up the site but have administered it for some time but am still learning about the finer points of DNN's internal workings

As I recall, it was not until DNN version 5.4.0 that running in an ASP.Net 4.0 application pool became a workable configuration and automatic changes were made to web.config to handle .Net 4.0. Even then, necessary changes to the preCondition attribute value for registration of HttpHandlers was not  being made.

I'm not sure if the login and register issues are related to .Net 4.0 or other upgrade issues.

I am using the dnn 5.1.1, it is working fine on .net framework 3.5. But now I am upgrading my .net framework to 4.0. It is not loading any UI control on my page. and the page is getting continuously refreshing.

I believe that the best course would be to change back to the ASP.Net 2.0/3.5 application pool, upgrade the site to DNN v 5.4.4 and if all is well at that point switch the application pool to ASP.Net 4.0. As usual before any upgrade be sure to obtain a backup of the filesystem and database should something go wrong.

As the current latest release of dnn is 7.0 Shall I directly upgrade to it instead of 5.4.4. Or I need to go step by step.
