A critical error has occurred.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

I was incorrect to report that my 4.0.3 to 4.3.0 upgrade was working OK.  It is not working; I am still getting the error above.  After the INSTALL upgrade, I mistakenly browsed to an old installation of 4.0.3 on another machine.  So, for my research, I have found that using either the UPGRADE or the INSTALL package to attempt to upgrade from 4.0.3 to 4.3.0 does not work, and results in the above error (other details about my installation: Windows Server 2003 using SQL Server 2005 Express).

If anyone else has experience with the error I'm getting after 4.0.3 to 4.3.0 upgrade, let's discuss.

If you are not getting the error above but cannot login as Admin or Host, you might make sure that you have copied the Validation and Decryption KEYS from your earlier release of DNN to the web.config file of the new DNN installation.  Here is a very good thread about the importance of moving your KEYS from one installation to another - but it's important to copy/paste them - do not try to reuse your old web.config file; the new web.config file probably contains code necessary for the new DNN release: http://forums.asp.net/thread/1118705.aspx

If a problem can be solved, there's no use worrying about it.
If it can't be solved, worrying will do no good.
