I'm currently on my 3rd attempt to install DotNetNuke on Windows 2003/IIS 6.  It is installing to SQL Server 2008.

It gets to the database installation part, but doesn't appear to complete it.  After letting the process run for about an hour or more, the browser window it was running in wouldn't respond.  I closed the browser and attempt to open the site and it complains that the domain name doesn't match and to check the PortalAlias.   I go into SQL and query the table and it has no entries at all.  There are 115 tables so it did do something.

Is there a DNN log I can look at to see how the installation progressed?  It knows that it completed some of the installation because it attempts to run the page the next time I refresh the url or open it in another browser window.

What is the estimated size of the completed installation database?  It appears to be still consuming space in the database as I watch it.  I guess it could be slow because it is constantly expanding the database.

Is there an alternate way to install this without a browser.  I tried to run this in Chrome 16 (my desktop) and IE 8 (directly on the server).

Martin

most likely, either the SQL server has performance issues or you didn't grant sufficient permissions for the SQL server user specified in the connection string (it should get dbOwner permission for the database).

It appears to still be building the database.  It assume it is slow because it is constantly growing the database.  If I knew the general initial size of the database I could size it appropriately first.  Right now a default database starts at 3mb and is growing at 1mb automatically.  That is probably the main performance problem at the moment.

I did initially setup my user AppPool user with a SQL Login as well as a database login.  I also made it the db_owner before attempting the installation.

Thanks,
Martin

growing the database should not be the performance factor, unless you have issues with the file system. Does your server has enough RAM installed and spare HDD space left?
