I've been using C#, had the same problem, fixed it using the same solution. VS seems to recognize localhost, but not dnndev. I was able to move along in the tutorial video, create a module, debug it, and deploy it, so this workaround seems fine for me.

When using custom hostnames in VS project-settings, the set hostname must also be bound to the relevant website in IIS, so that VS knows to which exact website you're referring to.

For localhost there's probably a default rule -somewhere- that makes either VS use, or IIS report, the default website in IIS.

Hi Kornelis,

Do you have any idea on where we could change this so that to Visual Studio can recognize http://dnndev as a valid development url?

Roy,

In IIS7, select your website. Then, on the far right, click "Bindings". Then you'll see something like:

Add a new rule (or edit the default rule, that usually has the field empty or filled with "*") and set the hostname to "dnndev".

That should do the trick, but let me know if it does :-)

You must open hosts file in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc folder

Here you must add

127.0.0.1 dnndev

don't need any change on IIS7!
