I'm having a problem with my site. I am using the DNN Community version 5.6 on MochaHost.

When I add a new user a notification email goes out but when I add a new security role to that user I get an unspecified error. I assume that it has to do with the notification email since one never goes out but the role does get added to the user. 

I'm guessing I've turned something off that I shouldn't have in regards to notifications, but I've no idea where.

Actually I miss-spoke in this - I get the same error when I create a new user and leave the 'notify' checkbox checked

Hi Fred,

You will need to visit the Admin->Event Viewer and identify the specific log entry associated with this error.  Posting it here (in particular the full stack trace) will allow others to aid you in solving the issue; without the exception specifics, there are a multitude of reasons that sending the notification mail might fail.

This is apparently happening to anyone trying to register and when I update their security roles

Hi Fred,

When DotNetNuke is attempted to connect to your configured SMTP provider, that provider is saying "no way!" and reporting "Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: Authentication is required".

Accordingly, this is (i) an issue with your mail provider or (ii) an issue with your SMTP authentication identity/credential in DotNetNuke.  You will need to sort out one/both of these in order to successfully send e-mails.
