Please Note:  The Settings name and value are case-sensitive, "target" in lower case and "SELF" in all upper case.

edit the template.xml file for your repository template, find the [DOWNLOAD] Token, if it doesn't exist, create it.
Add a Setting named "target" and set it to "SELF" to open in the same window, or "NEW" (the default) to open it in a new window

  [DOWNLOAD]
    target SELF

 thanks for reply, I tried the above, but it still opens in a new window.

I have stopped and started IIS,
resaved web.config,
double checked that I have amended the correct template and file (template.xml)
and used this case:
<Setting>
<Name>target</Name>
<Value>SELF</Value>
</Setting>

Has anyone found a fix for this yet?

- links in repository - still opening up via a new window, despite being told to open up in the same window (and therefore some users' pop-up blocker will dissallow the new page from opening.

code inside template.xml file:

<Object>
   <Token>[DOWNLOAD]</Token>
   <Settings>
      <Setting>
         <Name>target</Name>
         <Value>SELF</Value>
   </Setting>
</Settings>
</Object>

thanks.
