Forum content has nothing to do with the Active Social migration. Active Forums works fine with 6.2. When Active Forums 5.0 is released it will simply be a direct upgrade as usual.

We will be providing a utility that moves Active Social Groups to DNN 6.2 Social Groups, Active Social Journal to DNN 6.2 Journal and Active Social User Files to DNN 6.2 User Files. We do not have any immediate plans to migrate private messages, but that might be offered at a later time.

But how will Forums that are tied into AS groups be handled?

I would also like to better understand how member and group profiles are handled from a perspective of customization and 3rd party module integration. Will, you mentioned that you would be blogging about that but we haven't seen it yet. That is definitely a very important part of trying to migrate a customized AS site over to DNN 6.2.

After waiting so very patiently, I am feeling more and more like I will be stuck trying to migrate to DNN 6.2 if I want anything more than just very basic social functionality. It looks like we will have to go through the entire process of prodding and funding module developers to get connected like we did with Active Social. That was a lot of work and a lot of time and $$ expended and I am not looking forward to doing it all over again. Hopefully DNN Corp can help in this area.

I am building a site from scratch right now as well and am confused as to what I should be currently installing among 6.2, AS and AF (and every other product I've purchased in the last 3 years waiting for certain things in AS).

Will Active Forums remain a separate product?

Is it currently possible to add modules to user profiles in 6.2 using templates like in AS? If so, are there instructions somewhere?

Thanks

 Cliff,

We are all waiting patiently for Will to blog about what he promised within "a few days."  However, In Will's defense, as an old Active Modules member, you should know that  Active Module's " few days" usually means a few weeks (usually always more than 4-5 weeks). Will barely made that comment 4 weeks ago. So if you are being impatient, it is your fault.

Also, Will is blogging about more important stuff like what we should do before we upgrade DNN and why Microsoft will buy Yammer. And they did! So there. With all the important topics Will is blogging about, explaining things to impatient old Active Module users should be last on Will's to do list.

So shame on you for being impatient. You are going to get everything for "free" from now on so stop complaining about your delayed projects or the money you spent buying/upgrading Active Modules for years.

I think this is a very valid question that I would like to get an answer on as well. When looking at the control module there doesn't seem to be a way for adding more tabs to the profile out of the box. However, when I look at the profiles here on DNN it seems that this has been done and therefore I can conclude that there is knowledge about how this should be done.

Please share this knowledge with us so that we can test and plan the transition from AS to DNN62X.

Regards,
Marc
