I could be wrong but I think Sacha has done some work in this area, with his interface.

http://dnncltools.codeplex.com/

This is a lot better than any of the DNN localization UI, but it's still in Beta.

For myself, I don;t like the fact that the DNN solution gives extra work, by creating seperate tabs for each language. I can see the advantages, when you don;t use multi-langauge capable modules, but the extra work needed to maintan such websites make me use DSLocalizator, rather than enable DNN localization.

I'm also in favour of have a double layer of localization in DNN, one where we can opt for a Portal and Tab Names/Meta Data localization only (for use with multiple langauge compatible modules) or the full localization, which DNN has currently choosen as the default solution.

Regards,
Dave.

Dave,

I completely agree with you. But there are a lot of DNN users who use this core localization technique, and therefore we have to look that the users of our module - your store and my form module - are able to run on this platform as well.

I think there is a lot of fear about 3rd party localization solutions - I always used PageLocalization and other tools from Apollo Software, but now Erik made a big jump in his carrees and left me in the rain. These tools don't work with .Net4 anymore, and without Sacha's patch, PageLocalization would not even work on DNN 6. That means that at some stage, I won't be able to upgrade anymore, when DNN starts to require .Net4, and then we have to relaunch sites with hundreds of pages just because of this fact.

I am far away from blaming Erik for his decision, what I want to say is that I understand when people have more trust in (not so good) core solutions than in (much better) third party solutions.

Best wishes
Michael

@Michael, I can;t argue with your logic.....but the truth is DNN localization is not the correct solution for 90% of DNN installations! I keep trying to find the time to write up my thoughts and send them to Vicenc, in the hope he'll join the cursade to have a multiple level localization support.

David,

I totally agree with you that the chosen path is not the optimal way for any website larger than 20 pages, and that is propably more than 90%.

On the other hand, I fear that this train has left the station, and all of our complaints can be sent to the "Salzamt" (salt office), as we say in Austria - this means a non existing authority.

Best wishes
Michael
