Hi all,

I have uploaded alot of my Documents using the repository Module..I have categorized my Documets and added the Repository Dashboard to the Home page...

However, many of my Documents are word documents that Contain Hyperlinks to other document within the site.

How do I now create a Hyperlink within a word document to the documents now stored in the repository.

The Documents are all of the type SCG-ENV-01.b749b86b-46a6-47ce-ae2c-3351581836d6.doc

Eventhough the document is called SCG-ENV-01.doc

I understand that this is how the moduel works but I just need to know the best way to add a link and also a link using the Link Module ?..The link Module does not see any documents contained within the Repository Directory ?

Thx in Advance

Ray..

Hi Ray

As far as creating a link within the document to point to another document in the Repository.... good question! And not one that I can easily answer. I think the best work around would be to use DNNs search function and use the link it displays as the link in the documentation. IE: on my dev site I've got a document called Documentation. Using DNNs search it resulted with a link of http://localhost/DNN311/Home/tabid/36/grm2id/1/Default.aspx. That's the link I'd use in your Word docs.

As for the Links module. It "should" show up once the Scheduled File Synch runs on your site but you can also do it by going to File Manager and click Synchronize File System and Database at the bottom of the page. The documents will then show up in the Link module.

Hi Mike,
Thx so much for the reply...I really needed help on this ...

Can I just ask you a few questions and observations that I have noticed.

You were correct..Once I manually run the File Synch then the documents appear in the link module.
When is this scheduled to run and how to I changed it ?( I don't think my schedule is running at all as the site was up for a couple of days and still the documents wouldn't show up until I manually ran it...

Hyperlinks...Yep Using the link returned by the Search results looks like it will work a treat. This is especially important that the link doesn't change if I edit a document.
I have also used the link module to add a link but this falls over When I edit ( As in Download , Edit, Save and then re-upload a document ). The link becomes a page cannot be displayed ( Even after a Re-Sync )Probably because the file name has changed.

So the link module isn't very usefull if you wish to Constantly edit documents on your site as the Link keeps Changing.

I reckon I can use the search results as a link like you said but I don't really unserstand how it is working ?
What do you think......Go with the search results link /

Log in as Host and go to Host->Schedule and look for DotNetNuke.Services.FileSystem.SynchronizeFileSystem, DOTNETNUKE. By default it's disabled which I think is new behaviour. One thing to be aware of, one of the sites I host had a lot of files on it (>2000) and when the Synch would try to run it would pretty much lock up my server and use 100% of the processor.

The link shouldn't change when you edit the file as it's pointing to the ID of the item which won't change on an update. I think you're correct as far as the link goes when you try to use the Links module. I didn't consider that.

What about using the Dashboard as a link to the files. It's not perfect but you could use the Latest Uploads, Top Downloads, or Top Rated templates and set the number of files to something much higher than you ever expect the Repository to contain.

Hiya Mike,

Again thx for your help..

I plan to use the results from the search as a link but some documents that I have uploaded do not show up in the search results of the CORE Search Module that is to give me the link..

After reading the forum it looks like there are problems with the core search module.

Do you know which tables I can look at in the SQL to get the ID of the Documents.

Most of the links will be very similar but there must be a table that is linking a title to an ID.

I can then use this to create my lnks if they dont show up in the Core search.

The Repository search works perfect but doesn't give me the link in the form you suggested.

eg:  http://localhost/sigquality/Documents/tabid/56/grm2id/62/Default.aspx
