I had this same issue. I upgraded from dnn 6.x to 7.6. I could not go into edit mode, I could not move modules. Every fix I attempted failed. The IIS server was current. I updated my jquery to the latest one which solved the issue of only having one set of controls for all modules but I still could not move modules or get into edit mode.

I went old-school and downloaded a full install version of DNN 7.0.6. I took the web.config file from that package, changed the connection strings and machinekeys and replaced my entire web.config file. Problem solved! I don't know what was wrong with the web.config and I don't have the time to comb through it.

This started happening after upgrading from 7.0.6 to 7.1.0, adding back the NewtonSoft DLL worked for me.

Hi,

My solution is to reinstall the windows system and use the system of "windows server 2008 r2 enterprise".  ago, I use the "windows server 2008" so when I go into edit mode there's 401 error happens.

For the record, in DNN 7.1.1, when logged in as Admin or Host, I can't move modules around from pane to pane. It asks for Authentication. If I log on to the server then it does work. Using Chrome Debug tools - I can see this message on the Service: Message":"The anti-forgery token could not be decrypted. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that all machines are running the same version of ASP.NET Web Pages and that the configuration specifies explicit encryption and validation keys. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster."}

This solution unfortunately did not work

I managed to fix this, I'll summarize my findings as it may help someone else:

I am on DNN 7.1.1 on Server 2012 IIS 8

I did NOT make this change ( http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/Page/...) - it is still set to False in WebConfg

I have 2 sites with the same MAchineKey - I think this may have confused my cookies. I did a complete delete of all cookies and now it works with Control Panel.
