I may be on the bleeding edge but I would have thought someone else has tried this by now. I tried to install DNN 6 and 7 on our new Windows Server 2012 with IIS 8 to beging testing. No Luck when trying to load the site I receive this message.

This configuration section cannot be used at this path. This happens when the section is locked at a parent level. Locking is either by default (overrideModeDefault="Deny"), or set explicitly by a location tag with overrideMode="Deny" or the legacy allowOverride="false".

Any ideas on what's happening? Or can we not run DNN on IIS 8
This was not a new install but a copy from our production server and added to the default web site as an application run as localhost\
It runs just fine as a localhost application on our production server under IIS 7.5

I got exactly the same error when I made a test-installation of DNN7 on a freshly installed Windows 2012 server.

It turned out that I needed to add additional roles and features that you don't get by just choosing to install the default role of IIS8.
Make sure under "features" that you have all "ASP.NET" related features ticked, both for Framework 3.5 and 4.5. Also check the following:
Server Roles -> Web Server (IIS) -> Application Development -> Various ASP.NET related stuff and include them as well.
After I had done that and restarted the server all went fine, hope this helps.

Artica,

Thanks for posting your solution to this issue. I'm currently running into the same problem as well, but I'm not having much luck after following your instructions. I'm hoping you could take a look at the following "Server Roles" and "Features" to see if you can point out something I may have missed. The items list are those I have checked.

Server Roles

  • Application Development
    • .NET Extensibility 3.5
    • .NET Extensibility 4.5
    • ASP.NET 3.5
    • ASP.NET4.5
    • ISAPI Extensions
    • ISAPI Filters

Features

  • .NET Framework 3.5 Features
    • .NET Framework 3.5 (includes 2.0 and 3.0)
  • .NET Framework 4.5 Features
    • .NET Framework 4.5
    • ASP.NET 4.5
    • WCF Services
      • TCP Port Sharing

I did not make any changes to the web.config file and I followed Chris Hammond's four part video to set-up and install DNN 7.

Thanks for your assistance with this.

Albert

Hi,
today i installed DNN 7 at the hostingprovider 1&1.
I get the same error ...

Can i got DNN 7 to work ???
I don't have privileges to edit the iis configuration there.

The Problem occurs in web.config in web.config under

<system.webServer>
  <security>
    <requestFiltering>
It seems that this lines where added during setup in 07.00.04.config.

What can i do to get it to run ?
What happens if i remove these lines in 07.00.04.config ?

Regards

Jürgen

please make sure, request filter feature has been added for your IIS web server.
