I am deploying a DNN624 instance to a production server from a staging server. Both servers run II6 and have .NET 4.0 installed. I have copied the web and restored the database from the staging to production environments, and configured the site in IIS to match the staging server. I have checked that the Network Service identity has modify ACL permissions on the whole web.

The site runs correctly on the staging server, but throws the exception below in production. Can anyone suggest the cause or a solution to this, please?

 Server Error in '/' Application.

Assuming that the url of the site on the production server is different from that on the staging server, did you add a portal alias for the new url before moving the database to the production server? If not, you will need to add the new portal alias directly to the database table PortalAlias using a tool such as MS SQL Server Management Studio. After adding the new alias directly to the table you will likely need to recycle the production server's application pool to refresh the cached portal alias data.

Thanks Bill. Yep, should have said, I modified the portal alias appropriately.

I wrote a guide on making a test copy of your production website, which covers the various changes you need to make in order for it to run properly.

While you're going in the opposite direction, the principles are just the same.
