Hi all,

The install for DNN seems to always want to install a new instance of SQL Server 2008R2 Express.  I already have several SQL Servers installed on my machine and don't need another.

How can I get the installer to use an existing SQL Server engine?  It seems intent on installing it's own?

 Thanks,

Rod

Rod,

create a database on the instance, create a login (if it is on the same machine, you can use the AppPool Identity or whatever "user" runs the AppPool or is the Anonymous identity defined in your IIS).

Running the installer you are able to enter the database credentials - just change the option for selectiong the database from from "SQL Server (Express) file" to "SQL Server Database".

You can also use the same database for different DNN installations as long as you use different object qualifiers. This scenario makes sense when you're in a hosted environment and have to pay per database.

Best wishes
Michael

Thanks Michael,

This was helpful information. In the end, I performed a manual installation.

Thanks,
Rod
