Hmmm it should still work as the AD users do get a user created in the DotNetNuke database. Or do they need to log into it through LiveWriter?

its a blogging module that basically allows liveWriter to connect but it fails for the AD-uses. "Standard"-users like host etc work.
Due to the description of Michael Tobisch above its shouldn't work (random pwd), or am i missing somethin?

Michael,

I think this is not really a DNN problem, but more a problem of how Live Writer connects to DNN, and it seems that it does not support AD authentication.

OK, here is a way how it can work: When this user is not a host user (and I think he must not be in the Administrators group as well) then go to the login page, click "Send Password" and enter the AD username (DOMAIN\User). An email with the random password will be sent to him (or her), and you can login using the standard login as this user.

I am not sure if this is a recommended way, or maybe a security hole (because AD users that have left the company can login to the site if it is available from outside!) - but it works.

Best wishes
Michael

Hi Michael,

nice workaround but its not really working as the password will be re-generated on every login. Thus, the user would have to do this every time he wants to use livewriter!

@Mike, might it be possible to prevent auto-generation of random passwords once the users is initially created in the DNN database? I know, its a leak in security, I'm just curious.

regards, Michael

You could if you went into the code and removed where I've setup the random generation of passwords and then recompiled.
