I have SQL2008 Express installed and working on my machine.  When I try to install DNN community edition (using the Web Platform Installer 4.5) the first screen (Pre-requisites) asks what DB to use and indicates that SQL Server is not installed (doesnt allow me to select my installed instance).

Is it trying to install a different version of SQL Server? Can I use my existing SQL 2008 Express?

you should be able to use your existing sql 2008 express fine - for some reason the web platform installer (WPI) is not seeing it, i would check and see if it is running (and if on a different machine if remote connections are allowed).

Thanks Cathal.  However, I am certain SQL2008 Express is running.  Just to confirm, I launched the Mgmt studio, logged in using windows auth (the SQL server is configured in mixed mode) created a DB and a few tables.  Everything is working fine, but when I run the WPI, I get the same message.  Could there be another reason why the WPI isn't seeing my SQL Server instance?  I have installed DNN successfully before, but not this version.

Do you have the option to manually supply the DB server name and other information?

tony, it seems youre not the only one to see this problem with WPI (http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&q=wpi+...), i'm afraid i dont have any good suggestion for you beyond perhaps suggesting you view the installation videos at http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/V... and try a manual install (its not as hard as it seems)
