I'm very frustrated with DNN 7. I've downloaded version 7.0.5.130 and installed it in my own local PC (not a VM). Everything works just fine and all of a sudden I get an error where I can't even log into the site.  I have the site and app pool running as a specific windows user which has all access rights to all folders and files in the site. The file '/DesktopModules/DDRMenu/Menu.ascx' does exist and I can open it just fine.

DNN 7 has some great features, however, if it is this unstable, then I'm better off waiting 6 months until they path it before using it, which is a shame.

Did you ever find a solution for this?  

I'm having the same issue.  Unfortunately, I'm already committed and in production at this point.  I'm having this issue in my DEV environment only.  However, I need to make changes to code in prod but I'm afraid I'll break the site at this point if I do.  My DEV environment crashes like this over and over no matter what I try.  If i do a clean install it works until I compile a desktop module or make any changes by selecting the same existing modules that worked previously or a previously working skin.  I'm so frustrated with the file '/DesktopModules/DDRMenu/Menu.ascx' does not exist.

I actually have a major client who plans to use DNN Enterprise.  I will now advise against it as support for issues like these seem to be non existent.

Hi,

Please recycle the application pool and restart the website in IIS. Also clear the cache of your website and restart the website. It might do the trick.

Hello,

I have similar problem, and found the source cause. Check out your website in IIS for possible Virtual Directories that have been created without your permission (in particular the "desktopmodules" directory).
