Hello,

My question is in a couple of parts.  We have a DNN Enterprise and we would like to have an installation on a production server and on a development server.  How would we allow communication between the two?  More specifically, if we do work on the development server, we would like to push the changes to the production server.  The second part of my question is that we have DNN 6.x. - would it be prudent to move to 7.x. before attempting to solve the communication issue.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ben,

You can install your dnn website on production server as well as development server but as far as communication between two servers are concerned you can do so by doing the development on the development server and adding the dll of your module to production server. Also you can upgrade your dnn 6.x. website to dnn 7.x.

Thanks,
Avinash Kumar

There is no communication issue. Create your modules, test in DEV and then upload/install in PRD.

About the upgrade - make sure you have a complete back-up before attempting to upgrade and start in DEV. Do a full regression test and then make plans to upgrade your PRD site but also make sure you have a complete back-up first.

Good luck!

Mark
