Ray,

you can't upgrade IIS leaving the OS on Windows 2003.

Try (step by step, test after each step):

1. Upgrade .Net Framework to 4.0 on the DNN6 site
2. Upgrade SQL Server to 2008 R2 or 2012
3. Upgrade to DNN 7

Best wishes
Michael

Thx for the reply Michael.

I will try your steps and get back to you with results.

SQL 2012 is not compatible with server 2003 so I wil try SQL 2008.

Hiya Michael,

I did the following

1. Upgraded .Net Framework to 4.0 on the DNN6 site
2. Upgraded SQL Server to 2008 R2
3. try Upgrade to DNN 7 http:\\localhost

error Error clientdependency.core ( because site is still trying to use .net 2)
Goto IIS default website properties \ asp.net tab change from to asp.net 2 to asp.net 4
browse to http:\\localhost again
error HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found

so this is where I am stuck.
It's a permissions error.
Normal fix for dnn7 with IIS7 is to grant iis apppool\defaulapppool access to DNN folder.

However, I don't have IIS7, I have IIS6 (server2003)

Looks to me that in order to get DNN7 running you need IIS7

Which means I have to upgrade my OS ( server 2008/2012)

Unless you know how to fix this issue for my setup ?

Ray..

Hold on a sec , I got further again and can now see dnn7 upgrade wizard... 404 error was  sorted with the following

1. Open IIS Manager, expand the master server node (that is, the Servername node), and then select the Web service extensions node.

2. In the right pane of IIS Manager, right-click the extension that you want to enable. In this example, asp.net4

3. Click to select the Allow check box.

Hiya,

Just to let you know that I finally got the upgrade working.

so sever 2003\ IIS6 \SQL 2008 \asp.net 4\.

Just need to test the hell out of the sites.

Will have to know try again but this time using sql 2005 .because I got as far as 404 error before using sql 2005 and didn't have a fix at the time.

This will save me having to upgrade to sql2008... if it fails we will have to take the hit and upgrade sql to 2008 or 2012

Thx for your help

Ray..
