Hi,

I have a site group created on my parent portal, and I have 10 child portals. I was able to add the other 9 child portals to the site group successfully, but there's one child portal that cannot be added to the site group. Here is the error message.

I tried to remove all the sites from the site group, and the only difference that I found between this child portal and the others is that, this child portal has 1 admin user on the site, and the other child portals have 0 users (not even admin). I am not sure how it is possible that the other sites have no admin user.

Is there any solution for this issue?

"Password retrieval" is found under Site Settings :: User Account Settings :: Registration Settings. Anyway - it is read only there, so it needs further investigation what it means.

The help text says it can be changed in the web.config file, and indeed there is a setting like this in the AspNetSqlMembershipProvider - but this not a "per portal" setting. Is your "problem" portal in the same installation of DNN?

On the other hand, this must not mean too much, maybe it's just a wrong error message, so try to delete the admin user from this portal and see if it works then.

Best wishes

Hello,

Yes... This means you have password retrievals turned off in your Web.config file. You're seeing that because you told dnn to use an existing account as the administrator of the new site. In effect, it's telling you that it couldn't add that person as an administrator because it couldn't retrieve their password... Or at least that's been my experience with it.

Personally, I don't like password retrievals... So I'd just make a new account to be the Admin for the new site.

Hi,

how do you delete the admin on the site? Usually there's a delete option for users, but I don't see a way to delete this only user/admin...

Sushan,

using the database manager itself (and do not "try" this in a production environment, copy your site and database to a testing environment and do it there first!). After deleting the admin, you have to clear the cache and restart the AppPool that DNN will be aware of the changes.

Best wishes
