I am trying to get this set up locally.  IIS 8 works, SQL Server 2012 works, all users have full rights on everything under the directory in which I put the DNN files (c:/inetpub/wwwroot/DNNSource).  This is set up as an application, identity for the application pool (default pool)  is set to LocalSystem.  When I get to the step where I am stuck is when I am trying to go to http://localhost/DNNSource/ using my browser, I get a 403 error instead of starting a wizard.  Is the problem my configuration or does this not work on IIS 8?

I went ahead and enabled directory browsing, so I can get the list of the contents of the directory, but no wizard starts.

Hi,

you have to set default.aspx as the default document in IIS, then you can turn off directory browsing. Also check if you have activated ASP.Net on your web server (Windows control panel :: Programs :: Add/Remove Windows components).

Best wishes
Michael

I went ahead and moved default.aspx to the top of the list, and .NET was already enabled, but there is no default.aspx file in the downloaded files.  I see two solutions, 5 folders and the web.config file.  Since there is no web.config file in the download, either, I guess it started to install and died.  I am starting with fresh files this time.12th time is the charm, I hope!  Thanks.

No go. I started fresh and it created an essentially empty web.config file but nothing else happened. I guess that is something, but not getting me where I need to be. Ideas?
