I prefer forums over Q&A, because there is an option to subscribe to new threads per forum, which allows me to reply more quickly - IMHO one of the keys of success for our forums at the German DNN user group. Besides, the forums offer better moderation options and long discussions are easier to follow - due to custom thread length and better styling here. IMHO this weights more than up/down voting option and gamification gimmicks in Q&A.

Maybe my site is unqiue? There can be varous reasons. I "fixed it" to using two list of tags, but the problem with that is when adding new tags you have to do it to the other tag list also. With 2 or 3 languages that not a big problem but when you manage more than this it very time consuming.

I tink that content localization should be furder expanded. For a lot of module developers localization is not a big thing to implent because the are mostly usa focessed. And localization is very difficult to implement correctly.

I don't see how content localization can be done by the system. I can only read English. If someone replies to my forum post in (say) German. I cannot (realistically) see any way that the system can localize the reply so I can read it.

Tags are a kind of user generated content. If I create  a new tag, to tag my post as say Red, because it means something in English. I cannot expect the system to automatically create a new tag, and tag it Rot (German for Red) so that German speakers can easily find it.

User generated content can't be automaticly converted.

But is you have for example a picture album. Tags can be the same for the picture and the translated value can be retreived.

Martijn, it looks to me that you quoted the wrong post of mine?
Besides, localization is a big subject. Translating user generated content will happen with selected items only, in most cases. But any information provided by the owner of the site is subject to be translated and there are different approaches, to do this efficiently. Unfortunately, DNN still has a number of issues in this area and we are working with the Localization team to solve it properly and as flexible as possible. Unfortunately this is a time consuming procedure which deals with a lot of aspects.

I think this conversation too important to cloud it with feature requests like tag localization. Let’s keep this focused and (hopefully) useful for all.

So it would seem we have a few major points so far:

1. The new DNN Corp web site too focused on their commercial offering - it seems like DNN Corp acknowledge the DNN platform has been obscured and will correct this, but there's still the conversation whether a separate open source/platform site should be created and maintained. Personally I think this would be a good move - not to say the corp site shouldn't publicize the platform also - it should.

2. Developer/module/functionality glut. We don't need to beat a dead horse on what’s happened in the past with module/developer acquisitions etc., but what is the best way of drawing high quality developers to the platform so we can get functionality created that the community wants/needs? I think a community voting system with a bounty based or quote system would be best, allowing the community to say what they want and for donations to be made so it can be made and the source ultimately contributed to the community or those that donated.

3. The pending thought that once DNN Corp is successful in their commercial ventures that they sell out and the open source platform dies. It seems to be that creating a separate site as listed in (1) would help instill some sense of community back to the ecosystem and adding some non-corporate, community based voice to the mix wouldn't go astray. To date all platform development (to my knowledge) has been driven by the corp, which ultimately is driven by their commercial plan and direction - which isn't a bad thing in lieu of no one else stepping to the plate and driving the bus...

Well, that's what I'm reading from this thread, if there are other constructive points people want to add, please add you voice - but let’s not confuse the conversation with feature requests or whining - lets clarify our feelings and help contribute to a solution rather than point fingers...
