Yes, it is very sad what is happening here...

I had a major crash this week, and posted about it yesterday. Overnight there was a total of 18 views, 0 answers.

A couple of years ago, that would have been viewed hundreds of times by now and gotten a least a couple of suggestions on how to fix it. I guess I'm on my own now...

I'll have to talk to the school board to see if they are willing to purchase the enterprise version, that seems to be the only way to get consistent support now. Either that or we make the move to a different platform.

You need to compare apples with apples. Maybe the issue which got many views looked like an easy one while your yesterday's one looked unfamiliar to most people. People decide to view a post based on the subject. The fact that 18 people looked at it and couldn't find a solution might indicate you have an odd issue. You are also impatient if you are expecting a second-day response from a free product, from the community, in a forum. I use a product which costs hundreds of dollars and I have to wait a day, every time,  to get a response, by email and that is from a company known for its superior support.

Without looking at your post, a 'major crash' anywhere could mean a million thing and probably hard to diagnose.

I find it interesting that people are using this thread as a dumping ground for all kinds of complaints about DNN! The thread is getting too long.

I doubt that you will benefit from a move to using a closed source software, where  only a few developers are able to identify and solve issues. Even paying for support does not guarantee that you'll get the best solution in a reasonable timeframe, I fear.

Unfortunately, you are correct, that the DNN community did shrink significantly, which has been caused imho by bad communication, raising fears in the community and bad decisions like ripping off all modules from the frameworl package, leaving new users with a Torso of a platform, that doesn't really attrack People.

Oh, I have no problems waiting for a response for a day or two, as long as I know that I "will" get a response. It is when I get to topics that I wait for over a year on with no response that I realize that the community support is no longer there.

Thank you for your input, I think you are correct on this... The big question that I (and probably many others) have is if this is simply a phase and the community aspect will return, or if this is a transition period where we gradually moving away from the community contributions completely. I know nobody has a good answer to this right now, but it is a topic that needs to be really thought about. Many thousands of organizations depend on the community edition, and need to make future plans accordingly. Speaking from the point of view of K-12 organizations, the majority of them will not be willing to pay the big bucks required for the professional version. We are a bit better off in technology than the majority, so we might go that route.

"ripping off all modules from the framework package"

Are you saying there were modules in the community edition and now they are gone? Do you have some examples?
