AFAIK DNN 7.1 checks it automatically.

Yes Sebastian 7.1 has this functionality. It was a mistake that i am checking in 7.0.x versions

lots of function around registration have been added in DNN 7.1 (as well as Search and URL management). Unfortunately release notes do not contain any of it.

You could just advise the user. "don't use your accountname ass password as you'r account wille be breached in no time."
Those users who don't want to make it hard for themselves will avoid entering a password that will be rejected (little do they know that there is no actual verification for this ;)
