you are usually not able to restore a backup in SQL Server from a later version. Didn't you get an error message, when you tried it in Sql Server Management studio? Or are you using user instance database (SQL Express only)?

@sebastian i am using express version i dont know about other version but i noticed in express we can restore database from later to earlier version but just by using database script. its now working fine i an using this link,

http://www.ifinity.com.au/2012/09/05/Creating_a_test_copy_of_your_DotNetNuke_website

but after all success i am just able to see Default.aspx page of site but when i am clicking on site menu getting error,

Error Summary

HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found

Why its not getting menu site pages ? does it require any changes in Database as mentioned in link above

Hopes for your suggestion.

if you are getting a 404, the default document cannot be found.
- try accessing a file of your site, e.g. image logo, to ensure the website is routed correctly.
- try accessing /default.aspx, if it succeeds, you missed to specify it as default document or there is a URL rewrite issue
- try accessing /install/install.aspx?mode=upgrade, it should display a blank page - otherwise ASP.Net is not properly configured.

You menu is just links.

How are the links in the menu (that give 404's) different to the url for the default page? Post some examples.

Best wishes,
