I had installed my site on godaddy... it was not easy... First I had to create a folder on my computer (named it dnn) then I uploaded the empty file onto my dnn account... I then took the install.zip file and unzipped it in the dnn file.... Then I selected all and gave read and write permissions. Then I had to make a sub domain of dnn. After finishing everything up there I took all the files and folders and moved them to the root... It was a pain in the ass but I got it done... hope this helps

FWIW - while this may work for a static site - it is very likely to fail the first time you try to update the site to a newer dnn version or try to add a module that needs to manipulate the web.config or other core folders.
