I was just thinking. The events module should probably handle the view permissions as well as there may be an scenario where you'd want the public to see events but not be able to sign up or register for events without being a member of the group.

BTW I am not a big fan of using roles as a group identifier and am not sure why that route was taken. Will was on the right track when it was active modules in terms of group categorization, group location, group search etc.  I also think all modules written for dnn today should be both groupid and userid enabled like the events module and much simpler to use as people today don't like things that take time.

In terms of social relevance, it would be cool if  the events module had the ability to geo locate events based on users location (so people will see events around their location (mobile ready). Are there plans to expand locations to include event address? Which  should be tied to the user entering the event not the event.  This way if I am entering 100 events I don't have to key in the address 100 times.

Thanks again

Hi Carl,

Thanks for the response, unfortunately it didn't answer the questions I asked.
- Have the groups been created as Public (with Review New Member) or Private groups? These options are set when the group is created?
- What permissions have you applied to the Events module, since in my testing by default no-one can create events (apart from Host/Admin)? So some permissions must have been applied to allow the group owner to create events.

Thanks
Roger

Sorry about that. misunderstood :)

Most of our groups will be public, this particular one that I am testing with is public.

1. You are right I was posting as admin so disregard the group owner thing, I had no permissions set initially but tried setting to registered user. that's when I realized that anyone could add an event outside of the group

2. With regard to module permissions in module settings, the drop down for filter by group shows all roles, global roles and social groups which is the group role for groups. However when I select social groups it does not display any of the actual group roles like biking. all roles and global roles show the same roles.

3. If I select registered user for edit module, then all users can add group events regardless of whether they are in the group or not.

hope that is better
