I recently had to rebuild a site, so  instead of pulling the existing site offline, I opened an additional hosting account, built the site, and then requested to rename that space and delete the old site. I have done this twice this year. Both times, my working site has gone down, without explanation. I now get a redirect and the site won't come up even though the IP address is listed in the Portal Alias table.

This has happened to me twice at my web host. The first time, it was my own site so I had the luxury of just rebuilding.  This time, is is a client site and I am having issues. There are also a ton of strange entries in my PortalAlias table. The site worked fine at the IP until the web host did the rename.

Anyone know why my site would go down and start redirecting just over a change of domain, especially when the IP and domain are still in the alias list? the site is in the root, and worked great up until that moment.

before you rename the domain at the hosting level, you need to make sure that that domain name is entered in the DNN portalalias list. (if you do not have access to the site, you can edit values directly in the database, in the PortalAlias table.

Once the alias is added through the database, you need to recycle the application pool, because the portal alias list is cached by DNN.
