Minification is not set in Host Settings. If I set them the dropdowns do not work anymore.  I assume changing the host page is some setting in the database. It would help me if I knew which tabel and collum.

I have tested now on several servers.
Along the path I have upgraded asp.net  one by one.

Final results is .

asp.net 4.0  does not work
asp.net 4.5 0  does not work
asp.net 4.5.1  everything works.

which makes me come to the conclusion  :   DNN  7.2.2 will only work on  APS.NET  version  4.5.1 or maybe laterf

im glad to hear it's working for you now, and thanks for doing the analysis, but I don't believe it's 100% correct - we do extensive QA testing and use virtual machines running a variety of OS's and .net versions and do not see the same results (e.g. .net 4.0 works fine with 7.2.2). In addition this is a reasonably rarely reported error which suggests to me it is environmental, and not something perhaps as commonplace as the .net version but perhaps something more unique e.g. in a particular localized windows OS, or localized .net version

I checked with my host provider where I have the problem, but they informed me that they have asp.net 4.51 installed. That still leaves me with the question how do I change the start/home page manually via a setting in the database or config file?

did you try applying default skin to the site? you may enable "show script errors" in your browser to get JS errors displayed.
another issue could be on the database access, did you encounter any issues during the upgrade process?

Sebastian Leupold
