If a trial version of a commercial module is limited to be used on 'localhost' address, what are the disadvantages of this method? (other than not being able to access dnn from another machine). The reason to use this method so that no activation and expiration are required. If someone wants to try a module, they can use their own machine.

not every site owner might have a local installation available, a number of my clients pay us for hosting and maintaining their site, without having the expertise to install DNN themselves. It depends on the target audience of your module, whether this is a significant limitation.

It depends a lot on how they implement the localhost option too - seen some modules that ONLY work if the domain is specifically http://localhost/ - which is bordering on useless in many environments.

It depends like how? The localhost option is for the trial version only.

I agree with Wes' point. Usually I have at least half a dozen test sites on my dev machine at any one time. None of them is in localhost. They are in localhost/subfolderA, B, C, etc.

Being forced to have a site in localhost will often wreck the sites in the subfolders. If the test version of a product screws up my dev environment; why would I believe that the full version is any better?

Best wishes,
