Hello,

before posting I have searched, read and tried various solutions to no avail.

My Google Adsense module stopped working for some obscure reason. I can place it on a page but as soon as I try to set its properties I get a catastrophic error Adsense\EditAdsense.ascx.vb(133): error BC30455: Argument not specified for parameter 'type' of 'Public Shared Sub OpenNewWindow(page As System.Web.UI.Page, type As System.Type, url As String)'. --->

Tried reinstalling the module but nothing changed.

I tried adding the script to the header/footer of the HTML module but nothing shows on the page.

I tried using the HTML module directly with the Basic editor and the RAW rendering. Still nothing shows.

I tried adding Google to the website Sponsors and using the DNN Banners pasting the code as a script and as text, to no avail.

I tried doing some of these steps with different skins to no avail. I tried waiting a couple of days for the ads to go active, I tried using other ads that were active already... still nothing is showing.

Desperate for a solution I turned to my windows 2008 Server local installation to try and see if I had the same problem and just as I was trying to copy the code from the remote to the local DNN installation I noticed the ads were miraculously showing on my REMOTE website!!

Puzzled I went back to my Windows 7 64 bit machine and... same as before, no ads on my page.

I tried changing browser: chrome, no show, Firefox, no show, Explorer same as before.

I suspect it might have something to do with my OS?? could that be???

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Moreover: does this mean all users surfing the net with Windows 7 don't see the ads?

Thanks

Do you mean separate copies of the site on separate servers - as if it's OS specific I would guess it's actually really the .net version e.g perhaps the machine it works on uses .net 2.0 or .net 3.5sp1, and the ones it doesn't work on use .net 4.0/4.5 (and Microsoft broke something in those releases). if you mean the same site but browsed from different machines it would suggest different browser versions, but that makes little sense as it would not cause an asp.net error.

Nop, I'm looking at my public website http://abbonati.clamerinforma.it from two different machines using the same browser and browser version - Firefox 28.0. The only differences are the OS (Windows 7 64 bit vs. Windows 2003 Server 32 bit) AND the antivirus, Avast vs Clamwin.

Could Avast be blocking the Adsense script?

I've googled it and there seems to be an issue with Avast blocking Adsense scripts

can't seem to find any info on this subject on the Avast forums though. Anyone experiencing the same problem? Anyone found a solution for it. I tried excluding my websites from Avast's webscan but nothing happened (unless I had to reboot for changes to take effect)

Any help will be appreciated.

p.s. also have had a hard time editing my post... I clicked on post numerous times but nothing happened

I think it has to be a 3rd party such as Avast as theres nothing in the code that is os/.net specific - I recall a similar issue happening with doubleclick cookies and Norton internet security but that was rapidly fixed by Norton (also there was a brief issue with another antivirus vendor who broke asp.net altogether by stripping the webforms code from an asp.net page - but again that was quickly fixed)
