Upgraded a 4.03 site to 4.3.1 and through everything was ok, but some things are acting funny.

I just noticed that downloads of documents work ok in firefox, but not in IE.

All doc types are okay in FF, but IE shows an empty page for PDF's, and causes an application for Openoffice when attempting to open word docs. The IE error for word docs says the the file does not exist. I guess it was not copied locally.

Is this a core issue witrh 4.3.1 with permissions ?

Thanks, Jim

Has Anyone seen this problem downloading with IE ?

I still experience this after upgrading to 4.3.3 from 4.0.3.

The problem also exits for me trying to download some files from the dotnetnuke.com site. These files download okay from firefox.

Any idea why I am haing problems with IE and the temporary internet files ?

Thanks, Jim

I've seen this with a variety of websites, not just DNN.  It's because of bugs in Internet Explorer.  Some references to various IE problems are at http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers/40.html

Charles Nurse has figured out this issue (it is an Acrobat reader problem) - this info is from him:

It is a problem with the Acrobat Reader plug-in.

... the solution appears to be one of the following:

  1. Upgrade Acrobat Reader to latest version (I think the install fixes any registry settings that may hev been messed up.
  2. In Acrobat Reader change the Preferrences to disable "Display in Browser".  This forces the pdf to open in Acrobat Reader outside of the browser window.

I'm having a similar problem with the document module, but I can't see how this is an acrobat problem since I can open pdf documents from every other site even the links in the text module, but when I click a link from the document module everything is blank. Upgrading acrobat does not seem like a viable solution to me because we are then asking visitors to work for the information that we supply. They'll just go somewhere else.

Any ideas on how to fix it in the module itself?
