Hi, just to deliver a reflection. Why spend time on a custom user manager in Forum rather than integrate with the existing user management system existing in DNN?

seems a little waste of time to me, and it would be nicer if we could manage useradministration from one place. Better for the user (My setting) perspective, and better from an admin perspective.

I'm aware of custom settings for individual modules, but I guess it's better to reflect on a pluigin model for the User admin rather than create custom controls all over.

thanks for a good and promising product!!!

Cheers,
/Rob

Maybe because UserManager in the forum manages setting specific for the forum, like avatar, signature,... And for some people want to use different nickname in the forum. Besides, personal informations on the portal is not open to everybody to access, not to mention that it's very limited (do you have avatar on portal level?)

The two reasons why are mentioned by viechinguyen.  The additional information cannot be tied in the user manager especially since many people will not have the module installed.  The second, and just as important, reason is that a non Site Admin should be able to handle user management specific to this module.  The current solution allows me to assing a Tab Admin to manage the forum and its users.  This keeps us from having another cook in the kitchen for general site administration.

Hi, I see thepoints and they are all viable. This is the way we think as it comes to modules that they are self sustained/contained. In this case maybe it's the best.

I was more thinking about the profiling data to take a bigger gripp and start thinking of a dynamic "plugin" method to a DNN Central "My profile" management.

There will always be Settings for the module, but as it comes to "User Profiling"  such as Personal Webpage, what IM is used and so on.

This is a reflection for now, but it's close to become a demand as we start to use more and more modules and users will have a more complicated situation managing the system knowledge related to their profile information.

Cheers,
/Rob

The module will probably still have its own user management because we want it to operate very similar to an independant system that people are accustomed to.

Now, I do agree that many common settings could be pushed into the Profile Provider.  The Profile Provider needs to be better first for this to happen.  The current one based on MemberRole is rather limiting.  We are aware and have discussed this.
