Hi,

I use Godaddy for most of my clients DNN sites, and recently they have changed over to setting up new shared hosting accounts with Plesk for hosting management. That being said Godaddy used to have a great full-featured MSSQL editor available right from the hosting account manager, but now it's a "lite" version and you can't edit any of the tables. Just view them.



My problem is that I am trying to tweak the db to modify the user accounts for a recently setup DNN site to let me get a working host account again. I can login on the admin account, not the host account.



My plan was to:

1. Login to the site as Admin and create a new user account.

2. Edit the DNN MSSQL db table "users / IsSuperUser" entry for this new account and set it to "True."



Hopefully that will get me a working host / superuser account that I can login to.



I was wondering if anyone could recommend a simple MSSQL editor (hopefully free) that will allow to access and edit the Godaddy hosted SQL database tables. The computer I want to install it on is running 32bit Vista. Any suggestions?

Jim,
check, whether GoDaddy Support remote SQL Server acccess, in this case you may install MS SQL Server Management Studio Express locally for free and access your Server DB.
you'll Need to update isSuperuser flag and restart IIS Website (e.g. by saving web.config file).

Hi Sebastian,

I was able to download SQL Server Management Studio Express 2012 and get it installed and I was able to get connected to the Godaddy SQL server. But, I'm still confused though. I can't find the actual data in the different sections that I can browse.

Here is an outline of the "folders" that I see after opening the database:

Database Diagrams
Tables
- System Tables (clicking doesn't open additional content)
- File Tables (clicking doesn't open additional content)
- dbo.aspnet_Applications
- Columns
- Keys
- Constraints
- Triggers
- Indexes
- Statistics
- (repeats)
Views
Synonyms
Programmability
Service Broker
Storage
Security

Where should the actual content / records be? Would this be some of Query that I would need to execute? If so, how would I go about editing the correct record / field? BTW - Did I mention I know little to nothing about SQL?

there should be a number of other tables like dbo.aspnet_Applications: around 5 aspnet tables and others like dbo.files, dbo.users, dbo.tabs - otherwise the database has not properly been installed or you are looking at the wrong database.
Right clicking a table Name should offer "Display top 1000 rows" and "edit top 200 rows"

Yep. I was able to right-click and choose "edit 200 rows" and change my account to True for superuser, how do I actually save the updated information? Sorry for being so basic...

(Update) I just closed the Query window where I made the edit and that must have saved it, because I now have a host / super user account again! Thanks so much for your help :-)
