The concept of DNN portals is marketed by DNN Corp, DNN developers and DNN hosting providers as a possibilty to run multiple websites.

I have produced a community website running on DNN 7.2. This website / DNNportal can easily be used as a template to create many more websites / DNNportals for similar organizations.

DNNportals / websites can easy be created and maintained on one DNN install and the whole DNN concept is beautiful to get these small organizations initial websites up an running on DNN technology at a cost they can afford.

But….even if you provide websites for individuals or small organizations you must have a backup and restore capacity. And what I have found so far there exist no backup / restore solution that can restore singel DNN portals! To me the whole concept then collapse. Why have portals if you can not use them in a real situation and why is this capacity missing? You can set up and admin separate portals/websites with separate user groups, separate modules, etc. Why can´t you backup and restore them separate?

My hosting provider does not provide this service and recommend that you run everything on separate DNN installs. I can understand that they see more business in that short term.

When asking the DNN store run by DNN Corp they suggested a module provider who did not have this feature. And when returning back to the DNN store again they suggested me to post here in this forum.

Look forward to your feedback on this subject. And hopefully a solution that will be of benefit to many DNN website producers will “show up”.
