The user never said that his hosting company provided the installation for 4.3.x, he just stated that he has installed 4.3 and then upgraded to 4.3.1.  As stated in my previous post most hoster will allow you to install any application you want, so you can install any RC release you want.   I would be surprised it the hoster in questions actually offered 4.3.x as an automatic install since it is RC.

In fact my new host has a drop down list to chose from version 3.2.2 thru 4.0.3 thru 4.3.1.  There was nothing specified that one was stable and the other a release candidate.  I accept a certain level of responsibility for being new to the community.  I have lost a good deal of time and have a little bit of a bitter taste in my mouth.  However after 35 years of programming it won't be the first time.  I will caution them about including RC's without notification for the reasons given.  However I don't want to slam them publicly.  If someone from the core team thinks it's that important they can contact me by email.

I may have a few bruises but I really do like DNN.  I haven't been scared away yet but you are right, someone could get hurt.

Thanks for your concern.

Mike

Thanks, will bring this up at the core chat.  No sure if we can do anything about what version a hosting company makes available, but at least we will know it is a possible issue.  The lesson here is don't think a DNN version a hoster provide is always a producion release and double check on the main web site to validate if the version is a Beta, RC, or production.

I have just read this thread and thought you might like another DNN newbies input,
I have been looking at DNN for a website that will eventually host other clients
- I have considerable IT experience and after seeing this thread feel compelled to comment :
I acquired my DNN install from the DNN downloads page
I naturally took the latest version offered - 4.3.0 - The term Release Candidate contained the word "Release" - I took it - maybe hastily but it seemed to be presented as the latest version -
Maybe putting it elsewhere for down load on another page or another section on the download page maybe
I too am impressed by the DNN software but like the instigater of this thread have a slightly bad taste  - My initial impression is there is a lack of clarity in documentation - no error codes to help finding solutions - the forum is good but seems to be a little dis organised

Again like the instigator of this thread I've not been scared off yet but its one strike down now

It is the latest version, but that still does not change that is a RC and it is note recommended to use in for production.  Vista is in RC2, would you install it and use it on a "production"?  Some people will say yes, but most understand that using it is at their own risk and the final version might not uprgrade from the RC.  This is pretty standard for any software being distributed.  RC's are one step above Betas, but not production ready yet.

Most companies do not have a seperate download page for Betas, Release Candidate, Production Releases. If not for anything else by maintenance purposes.
