So...there's an issue with the CK Editor when creating link to pages within a portal.

If a portal has both "parent" and "child" portal aliases, links to portal pages don't work when accessing the site from both aliases.

For example: We have a site www.ijpparish.org and dnn7.archchicago.org/71980 as aliases.

When logged into dnn7.archchicago.org/71980, links to Portal Pages begin with "/71980" and work correctly when logged into the portal with that alias. However, when logged in with the "parent" alias, it still renders the /71980 in the link (which doesn't work).

When logged into www.ijpparish.org, links to portal pages do NOT begin with "/71980" which is fine when accessing the site via that URL, but won't work when logged in with the Alias.

I thought links to Portal Pages should use the TabID value and be accessible no matter what address is used.

Not sure it is the same configuration, but for my sites I would need both your ijpparish.org AND ijpparish.org/71980 as aliases for the portal for it to work.

In my case the DNN instance has to be in a folder, not root, which would be the /71980 folder in your case.  If not, disregard as this probably sounds like gibberish.

I just always must do this and never got an explanation as to why...  Still true with 7.3.4

you should never use a parent AND child alias for the same Website. Either delete the child alias or redirect to the parent.

Sebastian,

This is the way I have been creating portals for YEARS.

I create the portal as a Child Portal so that the administrator can begin working on the site right away and I don't have to create DNS records for the site while it's in development. Once the site is ready to go live, THEN I create the "parent" portal alias and handle the DNS records.

An EXISTING non-DNN site that is migrating to DNN should be able to keep its original site live with the domain name they want and then be able to simply edit the DNS record.

It looks like this is a sacrifice that is made with human friendly URLs that I've never noticed before. Workaround would be to use Browse Server, choose Pages and uncheck Human Friendly from URLs.
