I'm new to DotNetNuke after developing in .NET for 10 years.  We have an existing corporate Intranet built with DotNetNuke.  I couldn't get it to work from Visual Studio so I installed DotNetNuke.  When I did it opened a web page titled Installation with a form to complete.  I don't know if I need to do that or what it's for.  I don't want to create a new website.  I just want to be able to open the existing website and make changes to it.

So in DotNetNuke I chose Open Folder As Site.  I'm not sure if that's the way to do this.  I'm not sure if I picked the right folder.  I can see the folders and I can browse the files.  When I click Run, Internet Explorer it gives me HTTP Error 403.14 - Forbidden.  It says I have not set a default document.  I think that is true.  How do I set the default document?  How do I get this existing website to run and allow development in DotNetNuke?

Thanks

Looking at the files in the Site that I have opened I see folders structured as shown below. (the dashes represent a node level so Custom, HR, etc. are folders under the 4.0 folder).  Default.aspx is supposed to be the start page.  I went to Site, Settings in DotNetNuke and I made Default.aspx the top choice under Manage Default Pages, but I still get the same error.  It probably can't find the page in the right folder, but I don't know how to set that up.

The File Manager inside DNN just Displays Content files, stored in folder /Portals/[portalID] of the Website.
If you open DNN in VS, you will see all source code files - but without the Content, which is stored in the database.
Would you mind to tell, which Kind of changed you plan to apply, this would help to put you on the right trail.

What kind of change?  I don't know.  Any kind of change.  I've been hired to do work on the website and I'm trying to learn how I would maintain/develop in DotNetNuke.  They might want to add a new page.  They might want to change an existing page.  I haven't been asked to make a change yet, but to start I could open a page and enter the text "Hello World", and then I would like to see that appear in the browser.  Is that enough information that you could answer my questions:

1 - How do I set the default page?

2 - How do I run and develop this existing website in DotNetNuke?

Hello,

DNN is a Content Management System. So, you don't add or change pages using visual studio - the vast, vast majority of things are done through the website itself. That includes adding/editing pages/content, changing the default page, managing users, and installing modules (which are like sub-apps of DNN).

So, as a first step, I'd close visual studio and forget about it for a while... then, install your own fresh version of DNN (you can use the Web Platform Installer) and play around with it to get a feel for how DNN works.
