    Hi

I am writing an application that creates pie charts dynamically as a GDI+ bit mapped image.  This works but bit-mapped graphics are not pretty and it results in quite large .gif images that are slow to download.  I imagine it would render much faster in SVG or SWF.  Has anyone here experience of this, what do you think is the best approach, what potential problems in DNN should I look out for?

Kind regards

Geoffrey

I have limited experience in Flash Development, but it would seem you should be able to create the entire app inside Flash, but I'm not sure what would be involved in making the code work in ActionScript. It's a fairly simple language, but being that I'm not familiar with your application, it's hard for me to say. Regardless if it's possible to make it work in AS, you should just be able to make the app in flash then just plunk out the standalone SWF. How do you intend to gather the data needed for the charts, User Input, XML, etc?

Hi Bob

I am gathering the data from User input.  I know nothing about Flash.  The reason I asked about SWF was that it is the WWW standard although I gather that it is not being implemented in Explorer 7 and many people will not want to download ActiveX controls.  Some of the users will access the application from Corporations with strong firewalls and I doubt Flash will be encouraged, either.

Bitmaps work but are slow, I thought it would be valuable to offer a Flash option as well.

I guess I will have to just get into it.  Any recommendations on good teach-yourself-Flash resources for a total newcomer?

Thanks for your response

Geoffrey
