*sigh* and I guess it's unlikely to be fixed any time soon, rendering my site useless...

I really need to stop upgrading to the latest DNN until it is proven to be more stable - this happens to me 1 out of every 4 upgrades.

If you have not yet upgraded: DNN 7.4.2 has a showstopper bug if you are using Verified.

maybe a workaround would be using DNN-Connect registration module (I haven't tried yet)

Just found this same error on my site as well.

As a workaround tell your users to do following:

Do the registration as usual
After registration click Logout
Close browser(s)
Only after this click the verification link

This approach worked at least on my site.

Seems that as a quick fix this one works:
1. Edit file /DesktopModules/AuthenticationServices/DNN/Login.ascx.cs, method 'On Load' (remove space on method name...) and comment line where it says Controls.Clear();
2. Modify site setting Redirect After Registration to 'none specified'

These two modifications will work on both cases, either with or without new user logging out or not.
