When I have a new user sign up, the admin email receive 3 emails 1 is text with subject ending with "New User Registration" and two email with subject starting with "New message", but the new users does not receive a message.

When I test the SMTP settings under Host Settings, SMTP Server Settings, the email goes through.

When I test sending password reset the email does not go through.

SMTP Authentication is set to Basic

Any help would be appropriated.

Currently on DNN Version: 07.04.01 (280)

I believe it has been happening before I upgraded to this version.

Thanks

Bill

Check the configuration of the SMTP server to make sure that it can send emails to the intended address.

If you can get to the SMTP server logs, you'll be able to verify that the email message gets to the SMTP server, and also how the SMTP server handles the message.

Sometimes you can use the Newsletter module to test sending to external addresses. Look at the confirming email you get from the Newsletter module, and also look for errors in the Event Log.

please make sure, the SMTP account being used has been granted relaying permission, i.e. send from a domain different than the main account to a receiver, with an email domain other than the account.

First Thank you both for your suggestions. I was able to get in and see the emails were not going through, just message "Bad Command".

I had to change the Host Email under Host Details, Basic Settings, Host Settings, to match the SMTP Username.

For some reason I thought that the portal email for sending new user registration, Reset password and such was tied to the Admin, Site Settings, Advanced Settings, Security Settings, Administrator.

I set the mode to portal and set a different username and password and saved and updated then ran the SMPT test and received the email using the host email address.

Cleared the cache and restarted the application. Now it is using the portal SMTP email address.

Thanks
Bill
