Is it possible to add external aspx files (links) to dnn and force them to appear in the content window and not open a seperate browser window. I have several .net wizards (pages) i want to include in my new dnn website. i have added them to my menu and they all open a new window. For istance if I have a link to another web site e.g. http://test.com and on click want this to appear in the contents window just like the old html stuff using parent frames etc...

You can use the iFrame module for this.  Have you had a look at that module yet?  Just configure it on your tab to display the external content, and in the menu system instead of going to the external page you'd go to the tab with the iFrame.

I guess what I want todo is have a menu on the left with a list of links (pulldown) When the pulldown is selected from the left menu, the link (external) will display in the contents box of the same window and not a new window or parent window. How would I do this. I tried the Iframe but does not appear to do what I need per above example nor are there enough options.  Also the icon is automatically selected for Ifram and as soon as I save the iframe I get an icon in the frame - Thereafter I cannot remove the icon from inside the Iframe. The settings for Ifram does not allow to edit and remove the icon filename. Any Ideas?

You would need to apply some advanced techniques, and incorporate them into your skin.  There are actually several ways to do it.  I would suggest creating a CSS content pane in the skin and specifying it as the target.  I'm not sure whether or not the links module is flexible enough, you may need to hard code the menu.  Of course, it is possible; I'm working on some similar issues on a site right now.  But it's some relatively advanced skinning.

Let me rephrase.

Using the ditnetnuke menu on the left (typicall website) I want the ability to select the link and the result appear in the center of the page in the contents window. This works for dotnetnuke links. How can this be done for say an external link. That is if I add a link to the menu called "GO" which has hyperlink to http://dotnetnuke.com the dotnetnuke site should appear in the contents window of the web page and not in a new window (like open a new browser). The standard HTML code does this easy with the "target" tags. This is an basic feature of Web pages.
