Now I am completely stuck, I just installed DNN locally again through Visual Web Developer 2005, through the filesystem, so not in local IIS.

Now I can authorize edit roles in this test setup environment, so I really haven't got any clue anymore about what is wrong now.

Remember, only set authorized edit and view roles IF the forum IS PRIVATE. Otherwise, you are doing things that are not necessary and this leads to confusion.

Yes, a part of the forum is private.
I mean I want some forums only to be visible by registered users and not to anybody on the web.
And another part of the forum I want to make private for specific registered members only.
But as I said earlier, I can't edit these roles, and I have run completely out of clues.
I know you can make the forum moderated, but than you are giving users a possibility to respond and when I (as the forum moderator) would remove their messages it would discourage them even more to send message inside this forum on a regular base.
The website is running good, and the forum is also working.... except this little thing, and now I am thinking about maybe I could reinstall DNN completely, but I'm afraid that this is impossible and might corrupt my SQL database.  Or that I should wait for a new version of either the forum module or DNN, or that I should use another module for this purpose, like the blog module, where I can give users, either registered or unregistered the possibility to respond.

Anyway, I give up on this idea, I know now that there is something wrong with either the settings on the server, or some setting I have done on my own.
But I am learning as I speak right now and I will continue using this forum on my site, but I need to move on and start developping my very first module for DNN, or somebody else might have allready got a good solution for this allready.

Thanks for your help Chrispy, but right now I need to move on or have somebody else with more knowledge about DNN and ASP.NET have a look at my site, but it's a non commercial site about my voluntary work inside the local hospitals radio organization, so it costs me money allready and don't have the budget yet to hire a DNN guru.
I will keep a notification on this message, so if somebody would know a solution for me, please please post it in here and ofcourse when I came up with a solution on my own, I will tell it inside this thread also.

Just wanted to say that I got it working again.
It's just that something went wrong with the folder rights.
I probably had the DNN portal secured too much, I followed the steps for directory right management as described on this site, but it doesn't describe necessary directories (atleast for DNN 4.3.2) like the js (javascript folder????) which appears to be in need to have read/write settings selected.
I now have the site setup and didn't concern about any securing when it comes to folder rights, so I only setup a site with complete rights.
Well atleast it's working now, but I just want to add that I setup a new SQL database, so I was able to copy/paste the posted texts inside my old site, except that you're having to edit these texts, because in SQL server there are tags that are not HTML tags or are not converted back into html tags when copied.

I hope that by posting this message I can help others that have the same problem and I just want to add that it worked for me, even when I needed a little help, but that's what these forums are all about
