I've got past it by doing default connection.

 

Don't know why custom set up fails.

Well the message looks pretty precise.

Message: Sql login failed

So I guess that you haven't provided credentials that work with the database.

Oh were it that simple. :-)

The credentials I have entered are correct. I can enter them perfectly fine with other applications. Never seems to work when done locally for some reason.

It doesn't really matter at the moments as  I used default connection which is enough for me to take a look around.

Are you using Windows security or SQL server security?

With windows security; when DNN connects to the database it uses the Application Pool's account. So SQL server needs to a) let that account in and b) allow it full access to the database.
