So is there a replacement plan? I hope to hear it announced in Denver next week!

It seems that WebForms support will sunset in a few years. .NET Core is what we need to start using alongside DNN in some form. Doing so would also allow DNN to compete on Linux & Apple platforms.

the largest web forms project is Microsoft SharePoint - I doubt, MS will sunset WebForms support soon (and they stated it to be supported within .Net for the future).
I see a need for a switch to .Net core some time in the future, but the current version is still not complete.

Cheers from Germany,

This is much more than just disappointing, especially for being canceled so silently. Maybe I did not listen carefully, but nevertheless - it's a shame and it worries me.

We have to move forward, I mean I have to. Was a nice time, but DNN is getting fat, old and slow. I am very concerned about that, the cancelation means that I can't rely on DNN to support new technologies even when they themselves become mature. Think about how long it took to support MVC, not in any sense a "hot, new" technology.

I presume some 'exciting new news' was put out for the latest DNN Summit in Denver last month. I've not seen any description of that news though. There is no such blog entry at http://www.dnnsoftware.com/community-.... Sad if there is nothing to look forward to.

BTW, I'm finding DNN is recently MUCH faster and is hitting in the 80's on Google's Page Speed tests! It is not that slow in recent versions. DNN is still great, but 2SX is the only apparent innovator these days.

DNN doesn't need to present an ultimate plan regarding .NET Core, but it would be nice to start some discussions on the topic so a consensus could be reached - and volunteers might even step forward then! Visual Studio 2017 is out March 7th (https://launch.visualstudio.com/), so this is a great time to start discussions!

if you want to use more modern technologies in your own DNN modules, code them in Javascript and have the client talk to web services on the DNN side. You can avoid WebForms and bypass ASP.NET MVC. I think MVC is not as hot as it used to be. There are many Javascript UI frameworks you can use to create nice looking frontends.
It's more work to code and debug in JS but it's doable. I personally stepped away from DNN. I might come back one day.

Note also you don't have to be using the latest technologies to be successful. What's hot today may be won't be tomorrow. AngularJS was hot before and now developers are gaga about Angular 2. The Angular team is working on Angular 4. It's a never ending threadmill. Maybe Angular2 will be old sooner than you think.

Sharepoint is old and people laugh at it. However Sharepoint professionals are making good money from using it. Do they care if Sharepoint is not hot and new? No. As long as they make a good living from it and Microsoft keeps supporting and advancing it, they don't care.

Look at the strengths of DNN and decide if they will last for the next 5 years and see if it's worthwhile investing in it. Do you know of other open source .NET based CMSs with a strong market place that might replace it?

What do you want from DNN now that it doesn't do now? Saying that it's not based on the what's considered the hottest technology these days is not good enough.
