I got 52 emails this morning with the message below:

An attempt was made to access a locked out user account ( username: host ) on Friday, May 27, 2016. You may wish to investigate this matter further...

I shut down the offending IP through my firewall but clearly, there's a bot attempting to hack into my site.

Seems DNN needs a way to temporarily block an IP that has X failed attempts in a given time period. It certainly shouldn't send 52 email messages.

I'm guessing lots of people will be seeing this in the coming months.

there seem to be numerous attacks currently trying to login with "admin" and "host" users.
I suggest renaming these accounts (and follow the other steps provided by the security post today).

Had long ago deleted the 'host' (and 'admin') account, but somehow, somebody was able to create a new 'host' account to access the site. The log doesn't show any rejected logins (site is a brochure site only). The 'host' simply appeared and was used to log in. Was running 7.4.2. Tried to upgrade to 8x and my skin template doesn't like v8. Are there any known vulnerabilities like this in 7.4.2 that are addressed in v8?

Dan, you seem to be hit by the login attack, please read http://mitchelsellers.com/blogs/2016/... and http://mitchelsellers.com/blogs/2016/...
