I like WordPress and how it's polished and works smoothly. I hate the fact that it's in PHP, a language I don't want to touch. I have checked out some quality WordPress plugins and I just like how polished they are. I have never installed a single DNN extension which made me happy. The designs are crude. I know these are made by ASP.NET developers who have no or little design skills.

I love how WordPress updates its self and how plugins get updated. With a few clicks I can have WordPress and all the plugins update themselves from the same page seamlessly and effortlessly and.. I ask myself when will DNN users ever have the same experience. We are getting there.. slowly.

I have seen some high quality WordPress plugins like Sliders, form builders and others and I know they took a lot of effort to be that polished.

I tend to disagree with you. My site for instance uses Live Blog for the blog instead of the core blog module. Love it! Haven't had a single problem with it with the exception of accessibility issues with icons not having asistive technology reachable text o them, but that's pretty much it.

The appearance of a DNN site is controlled by the skin. It's not fair to blame the module designer if their work is displayed through a poor skin.

If the module designer has done his/her work properly then it's a positive thing for it to look the same as the site.

What are you disagreeing to?? That DNN has a better user experience than WordPress? That the best DNN extensions look and work better than the high quality WordPress plugins? That DNN updates itself better than WordPress does? The fact you use one DNN extension that worked for you doesn't change any of the facts I mentioned. When I use WordPress I am stress free. Most of the time when I download the source of DNN and compile or use a trial extension, I came into issues right away and get grumpy. I can never get a smooth experience.

I have installed tens of commercial trial modules under the default DNN skin. The way the UI elements are laid out and the whole user experience tells me that an ASP.NET developer has created the module without consulting/hiring a good UI designer. The general layout is the same regardless of what skin you use.

I have a general rule that separates a good design from bad. If the developer has to include a lot of text explaining how the workflow works or what a UI element is used for, then the design is fragile and not intuitive. There are very few coders who are also very good designers.

Here's an example of a popular pet peeve of mine in modules: Every label has a '?'  next to it. I hover over a ? icon next to 'Last Name' and it says 'Enter your last name'. Well duh!
All those info icons add silly useless information and make the screens look busier. It's probably DNN that encourages this standard because it's pretty popular and I think it's part of their DnnLabel control? Doesn't it have an option to turn off the icon? The developer put any info just so that it's not blank.

I see some modules and skin vendors are taking some popular WordPress plugins or templates and converting them into DNN. Mandeeps is one.
