this sounds like an issue in you IIS website configuration.
Please make sure the IIS app Pool is running ASP.NET 4 in integrated mode on .Net 4.5.1 or later

I have the exact same problem.

I've tried going to the nvquicksite site but the msi file to download is corrupt. I downloaded the source code and ran it but it doesn't do anything.

Any more ideas?

I know what my sa password is on my sqlexpress instance, but the dnn installer from the dnn webpage won't accept it.

I have the exact same problem with the installer from the website.
I know the sa password for my sql express and sql server instances so that's not the real problem.
I tried the nvQuiteSite website, but no luck.   The msi file to download is corrupt according to my browser.  I downloaded the nvQuickSite code application, compiled and ran it, but nothing happened.

Any ideas?  I'm on Windows 10.

David,
you should avoid using sa password in your connection string for security reasons. Please create a blank database, create a dedicated (local) user (or use integrated security) and grant dbowner permission to this user for the new database.
